Ursula Trudeau on Working in the Fashion Industry

“Working as a fashion illustrator and model, I got to know a lot of tough lady executives. They had to fight hard and be a little in-your-face tough because they were bucking things in a man’s world. I admired them a lot. They all wore hats. They were making a statement with their hats. Maybe that’s why I started wearing hats after a while... not at the time, but later on.

I don’t have a lot of pictures of me in hats when I was under the age of twenty. I did wear them when it was cold, walking to art school with my great big old fashioned portfolio. If the wind blew you might just take air!

I’ll never forget one modeling disaster. Someone had left a cake in a cakebox on the runway, and I accidentally stepped right in it! The lady in charge was furious at me. Can you imagine trying to get a spike heel out of a cakebox?”
